With the margin only two goals at three quarter time, the Comets took control of the game off the back of high defensive pressure to quickly forge an eight-goal lead.
Goal defence Ella Taylor was everywhere and recorded multiple intercepts during the last quarter to help break the game open.
Comets Goal Attack Sloan Burton was named the Most Valuable Player as she was instrumental in linking the centre and defensive thirds as well as scoring 15 goals.
Despite a late surge from the Roar, which saw them reduce the margin to three, the Comets were able to hold on as Taylor made another intercept to seal the game.
From the first centre pass, neither team could stamp their authority on the match for much of the first quarter as momentum rocked back and forth.
Eventually it was the Comets who settled and broke the deadlock to establish a six-goal lead at the first break.
Comets Goal Shooter Aitaua Enari (34 goals) proved a handful for the Roar defence as she impacted the contest more as the game progressed.
Roar responded after quarter time to level the scores as the match became an arm wrestle. The Comets controlled the closing stages to go into the main break with a two-goal lead.
The pressure of the grand final showed in the third quarter as neither team could quite string together a run of play to take the lead.
Comets Coach Michelle Cox said control was the most important aspect of her team’s game in the final quarter.
“We just had to be composed, we knew what we were doing, it was perceived pressure and we just needed to play with patience and control and that’s what we did in the final quarter,” she said.
Cox said for the young club to win its first two premierships in one day made the premiership win even sweeter.
