At the recent West Coast Fever and Adelaide Thunderbirds game, Netball WA were lucky to have 24 past players and officials reunite from WA’s Open State Teams, Perth Orioles and West Coast Fever across the decades from 1953 to 2013.

In the lead up to Netball WA’s centenary in 2024, it is wonderful to be able to involve such long standing contributors to our sport.

Ev Robinson (nee Brennan) was the fourth person to be awarded Life Membership by Netball WA. She was State Captain in 1951, then coached the State Team in 1954 and became Secretary/ Treasurer of the State Association for many years. Ev has a pavilion and grounds named after her in Belmont area.

Players in attendance from the various teams included:

1953 – Life Member Ev Robinson.

1963 – Judy Byrne, Gaye Teede, Robyn Manley and Vice Captain Judy Hammond.

1973 – Captain Ricky Coates, Vice-Captain Gail Wright, Chris Combes, Cheryl Stevenson on behalf of Di McDonald who is no longer with us and the Umpire for WA Marilyn Williams.

1983 – Vice Captain Jenny Goudas, Anne Fisher and Bev Anstiss, as well as Sue Taylor who served as an Official.

1993 – Life Member and Captain Liz Booth (nee McManus) was also Captain of two winning underage Teams (U/17’s 1984 and U/19’s 1985).

2003 – Six former Perth Orioles players Emma Dymock, Mel Johnston, Jenna McClure, Kate Pantelias, Helen Riolo and Jess Shynn.

2013 - Angie Bain representing the 2013 West Coast Fever Team.

1963 team member Robyn Manley said: “I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with old teammates, the only disappointment was the result of the game.”

It was a fantastic afternoon, a wonderful way to continue to celebrate and showcase our history and heritage and to have so many esteemed players, officials, and support staff join the celebration.

The group was joined for a photo opportunity by Minister for Sport and Recreation David Templeman MLA and Minister for Transport, Planning and Ports Rita Saffioti MLA.
