Western Roar Defender Caitlyn Brown has collected her second Jill McIntosh Medal for the best and fairest player in the Gold Industry Group WA Netball League.

Brown won her first Medal in 2022 and secured her second by four votes from Hamersley Comets Scarlet Jauncey.

She was a key member of Roar’s premiership win, when they defeated the Hamersley Comets by one goal to remain undefeated during the season.

Although she started the vote count strong, Brown said she was shocked to take home the ultimate prize.

“It’s been an amazing year, to win the premiership by one goal was incredible and I’m just so proud of the girls,” she said.

Brown now joins a select group of five athletes who have won the Jill McIntosh medal on two occasions, the other dual medallist are: Donnell Wallam, Andrea Gilmore, Cath Devitt and Peta Simeon.

“I can’t really believe I’m here, to put in all the hard work and reap the rewards makes me feel so honoured.

“I think it feels even more special the second time around. The first time was unbelievable but to win it a second time and not necessarily back-to-back is just so special.”

Brown was also recognised by her peers with the 2024 Player's Player of the Year Award.

After such an incredibly successful GIG WANL season, Brown said the secret to her dominance has been improving her fitness.

“The key has been lots of running and burpees, but also the knowledge Dylan McPherson [Western Roar Open Head Coach] brought to the game has been huge.”
