Convincing wins across the Open League board marked Round 8 of the GIG WANL Season

Peel Lightning 58 defeat Rangers 30

On Wednesday night, Peel Lightning took a very convincing win over the Rangers, starting the match with a 10-goal win in the first term.

Rangers 21/U shooting star Jade Dimer played up and scored six, but the side just weren’t able to translate court work into high scoring goals.

Lightning’s Chelsea Cook (38) has continued to be a vital part of the sides systems, joined by Rebecca Lill (eight), Kate Kimberley (seven) and Marene Peyper (five) in goals.

West Coast Warriors 57 defeat Fremantle Sharks 44

The Warriors have continued with their high-quality performances, Jamaica Jauncey flawless with 46 goals, her dominance controlling the game start to finish.

Sophie Eastaugh (20) was the standout in goals for the Sharks this week, whilst Warrior Liza Ball was successful in locking down Goal Shooter Kasey Ridout (ten).

Shark Numi Tupaea held the centre bib the entire match as she celebrated her 100th GIG WANL game, an athlete who has been heavily involved in the competition since 2010.

Comets 60 defeat Southside Demons 50

The second placed Southside Demons cracked open the game with a six-goal lead after the first term, but it was the Comets who fought back and sustained the next three.

The Demons shared the responsibility in goals, with club captain Meg Gallager (23), Georgia Pitt (ten), Brooke Marques (eight), Kelsey McPhee (six) and Georgia Ettridge (three).

It Jasmah Haywood (43) whose authority in goals commanded the win for Comets. Joined by Sloan Burton’s 17 the side guaranteed their comeback.

Souwest Jets v Western Roar

The powerhouse that is the Western Roar continued Wednesday night, taking down the Souwest Jets by a huge 30 goals.

Roar’s Sophia Lamers (36) and Asha Parsons (27) combined for a lethal duo, with Zoe Baxter also putting her hat in the ring (four).

Souwest Jets were once again flagged by Rylee Hall (15) in goals, 21/U athlete Lily Knight (nine), Hayley McKee (two) and Meretini Fuimaono (one).   

The Western Roar and West Coast Warriors Men’s sides took over the 7:30 Streamer slot on Wednesday, with Roar taking the win by two goals.
