Big crowds attended the opening round of the 2023 Gold Industry Group WA Netball League season at Gold Netball Centre.

The Western Roar left off where their 2022 Season ended by winning all their games in each division including two grand final rematches.

The Open grand final rematch started the season and the Roar dominated from start to finish defeating Warriors by 24 goals with the Roar combination of Sophia Lamers and Emma Putt combining for 50 goals at 89 per cent.

In other matches in the Open Division, Rangers, Sharks and Comets started their 2023 campaigns with solid wins.

It was the centre court who shone in Round One with strong performances from Rangers Captain Kate Bunten, while Jess Repacholi from Sharks was impactful in her time through the middle.

West Coast Fever Training Partner Jordan Cransberg made her GIG WANL debut for the Comets and did not disappoint with a dominant performance in Centre.

It was a similar story for Roar in the Men’s, as they jumped the Comets to lead by 14 goals at quarter time and extended their lead at each change to record a 66-26 victory.

Max Denholm led the way with 49 out of Roar’s 66 goals, shooting at 94 per cent accuracy in an ominous sign for the rest of the competition.

In the other Men’s clash, scores were tight with only two goals in it at half time, the Warriors stamped their authority on the match and pulled away from Demons in the second half. Jason Heard of Warriors and Dylan Gunn of Demons were standouts for their sides.

In the 20’s divisions, it was Sharks, Demons, Rangers and Roar taking the win to kickstart their 2023 campaigns.
