Cultural awareness, regional facilities, diversity and influencing change were the key topics of discussion for more than 20 Netball Associations from across the State when Netball WA hosted a Leadership Camp in partnership with the Gold Industry Group.

The development opportunity for Tier 1 Associations on August 7 and 8 was attended by representatives from Albany, Belmont, Broome, Bunbury, Eastern Goldfields, Esperance, Fremantle, Geraldton, Leschenault, Joondalup, Karratha, Mandurah, Narrogin & Districts, Noranda, Northam, Perth, Rockingham & Districts, Southern Districts, Success, Swan Districts and Wanneroo Districts Netball Associations.

Sessions across the two days included a focus on regional facilities, membership growth, diversity in netball, leadership, influencing change and behaviour, cultural understanding and awareness, and forward planning.

Guest speakers included experts on social and disability inclusion, sexuality and gender diversity, as well as West Coast Men’s and Mixed Netball Association  President and Australian Sonix Men’s Open athlete Jerome Gillbard, Noongar man Danny Ford, Netball WA CEO Simone Hansen and Gold Industry Group Vice Chairperson Stuart Jenner, who is also General Manager for Capability and Culture with Gold Road Resources.

Mr Jenner said the opportunity for the Gold Industry Group to support leadership events for netball associations was a great example of the partnership with Netball WA delivering positive outcomes both on and off the court.

“To see so many leaders from Associations across our State represented over the weekend and engaging in these important conversations was sensational,” Mr Jenner said.

“The Gold Industry Group and Netball WA partnership is delivering outcomes that not only benefit those participating but have the potential to positively influence the wider community”

“We look forward to hosting more events in partnership with Netball WA in the future and thank everyone who attended the Leadership Camp and those behind the scenes who helped make it possible.”
