The competition is now in its fifth year and last year, Elizabeth Cook was judged the winner for her unique and beautiful netball design.
Elizabeth said the meaning behind the artwork was: “The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags represent the First Nations Peoples of Australia. The hands represent all the hands that are working towards shaping a better future for our peoples.
“The background are all the colours of our lands. The meeting circles represent the coming together and co-operation of our people to create a brighter future for our peoples. The footprints and paths represent the journey we are all on to better our communities.”
Entry in 2023 is open to all NAIDOC Carnival participants, Shooting Stars site participants and Netball WA Grassroots sites participants.
The winning design will be selected by a panel of voluntary judges, based on the designs and story submitted. The winner will be judged to be the most creative design and/or the most meaningful story.
The design will then be replicated on more than 500 netballs and feature within event signage for the 2024 NAIDOC Netball Carnival in Perth.
To enter, participants must submit their Gilbert ball design and story about their artwork to feature on the 2024 NAIDOC Netball to partnerships@netballwa.com.au. The NAIDOC Netball Design Competition closes on 31 August 2023.
