The largest community netball event in Western Australia, the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships, will be held in Perth this long weekend with more than 3000 players travelling from across the State to participate.
The Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships form part of the Netball WA competition pathway and are held annually to provide representative participation for Associations’ players, coaches, officials, managers and administrators.
This year approximately 3,300 players and 280 umpires from 39 Associations across Western Australia will participate in 36 divisions catering for age groups from 12U through to Masters.
This will see more than 850 matches played on 39 courts at the Gold Netball Centre and Perth Netball Association in Jolimont on June 5, 6 and 7.
The event will commence with an opening ceremony at 8.15am on Saturday, June 5 and conclude with a closing ceremony at 3pm on Monday, June 7.
The 2021 Netball WA Service to Sport Award will be presented at the opening Ceremony to recognise one of the many great volunteers who has contributed to netball for 30 years or more.
Netball WA General Manager – Community Netball Liz Booth said the Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships offered a wonderful opportunity for players and officials from across the State to come together on the netball court.
“The Championships are one of the highlights of the year and a fantastic chance for the netball community to come together and enjoy three days of fun in Perth,” Booth said.
“The event is also an important opportunity for player, coach and umpire talent identification, coach mentoring, umpire coaching and testing, and an opportunity for Associations to measure their pathway progression against other Associations.
“I am really looking forward to the event and seeing everyone enjoy a huge weekend of netball.”
Healthway CEO Susan Hunt PSM said working with Netball WA to promote the Fuel to Go and Play message was a great way to create a healthier netball environment.
“By providing our netballers with healthy options we are supporting them to make healthier choices, both on and off the court,” she said.
“Healthway funding will also assist Netball WA to develop educational resources that support parents and coaches to be advocates of healthier lifestyles.”
The Association Championships are supported by Healthway, promoting the Fuel to Go & Play message, the Gold Industry Group, the Insurance Commission of Western Australia, promoting the Belt Up campaign, the University of Western Australia, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the Town of Cambridge and the Perth Netball Association.
