Netball WA is excited to announce that the Aboriginal All Stars program is back for 2021!

The Aboriginal All Stars program is designed to give Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander girls the opportunity to be exposed to the netball pathway. For those who have not yet experienced these kinds of opportunities or may not feel confident, the Aboriginal All Stars program provides a safe and supportive environment for girls to understand the elite practices involved in progressing through the netball pathway.

In 2021, the Aboriginal All Stars program will be comprised of the Aboriginal All Stars Leadership Camp and participation in the State Cup competition.

A new initiative to the program, the Aboriginal All Stars Leadership Camp, will occur from Tuesday 5th October until Thursday 7th October. Supported by Sport Australia and Shooting Stars, this camp will provide an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander netballers from both metropolitan and regional Western Australia to come together and celebrate their culture with like-minded participants. With guest speakers, ‘On country’ training and personal development workshops, this camp will assist our All Stars and Regional Academy of Sport girls in being confident individuals.

Following the Aboriginal All Stars Leadership Camp, athletes will compete in the State Cup competition. State Cup is a NWA pathway competition that provides opportunity for players, coaches, and umpires to be identified by selectors for further NWA pathway opportunities and programs.

The competition is held at the Gold Netball Centre in Perth from Friday 8 October to Sunday 10 October 2021.  State Cup age divisions are: 14U, 16U, 18U and Open. The Aboriginal All Stars will submit one team in the 14U and 16U Divisions, playing against the other five (5) regional areas and the Origin Metro League Competition Division one (1) top five (5) teams and the Division 2 Premiers.

The Aboriginal All Stars program will have a particular focus this year on reaching regional athletes as well as metropolitan athletes that are not already in the netball pathway, and Netball WA and Shooting Stars will be working with Regional Coordinators, Aboriginal Grassroots Netball Program Sites, and community representatives to ensure the best possible opportunity is provided for these girls.

The program is integral in providing innovative and sustainable netball programs that empower women and girls, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and girls, to ensure our purpose of “advancing netball, advancing communities” is brought to life.

Netball WA, West Coast Fever and Shooting Stars acknowledge the traditional owners of country throughout Western Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respect to them and their cultures; and to elders both past and present. Ngalak kaaditj Wadjak moort keyen kaadak nidja boodja – We acknowledge Noongar people as the original custodians of the land on which our office sits.
