Netball WA’s Aboriginal Grassroots Sites from regional locations across Western Australia are invited to apply for the Community TAB Grassroots Netball Hero Grant.
Thanks to the continued support of Community TAB, two successful sites will be selected as the recipients of a $2,500 grant, to help support their club.
Launched in Bunbury in 2003, the Netball WA Grassroots Sites program aims to provide opportunities to increase netball participation and development for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living throughout WA.
The program currently operates in seven regional areas, with over 300 athletes and a large number of coaches and officials engaging in and progressing through the Netball WA pathway.
The Community TAB Grassroots Netball Hero Grant will launch in December, where Grassroots Sites will have a 4-week period to submit their applications. Stories can be submitted as a written application, including photographs, or as a video submission.
Applications should be submitted to Netball WA and address criteria about their club and how they:
- Combat issues in their community;
- Overcome barriers in the community or help their participants overcome barriers;
- Encourage participation from players in their community;
- Encourage volunteering at the club;
- Work the club does in their community on and off the court; and/or
- Celebrate their Indigenous culture within the club and community.
Netball WA’s General Manager of Community Netball, Liz Booth, said the Community TAB initiative would provide Grassroots Sites with added support towards advancing netball participation and development.
“We’re really proud of the ongoing achievements of Netball WA’s Grassroots Sites,” said Booth.
“The Community TAB Hero Grant is a great opportunity for our sites to highlight the fantastic work they’re doing in the community.”
Community TAB General Manager Matthew Thomas said Community TAB is proud to be able to further extend support to the Grassroots Sites.
“We know the importance that sport plays in communities throughout WA and the positive pathways netball can create for young women,” said Thomas.
“The Hero Grant not only recognises the progressive outcomes that Grassroots Sites are creating for their players and in their community, but also celebrates culture and community.”
Community TAB and Netball WA will announce the successful grant recipients in January, in time for the 2020 season.
