FURTHER UPDATE ON 2020 NETBALL WA COMPETITIONS AND EVENTS - MARCH 23 2020
Following the Federal Government’s announcements over the weekend, Netball WA would like to provide the following updates regarding a number of Netball WA competitions and events and the steps we have taken to ensure the continuation of our sport at all levels in 2020.
Netball WA has recommends all clubs and teams should suspend training immediately. This includes Gold Industry Group WANL teams, Western Sting and West Coast Fever, until further notice. Information regarding when training can resume will be communicated in due course.
Netball WA would like to reiterate that we are working hard to develop a range of alternatives to ensure our participants can stay connected to the sport.
Our Term 1 Suncorp NetSetGO programs have been cancelled, with Term 2 programs to be suspended inline with the revised commencement of winter netball, currently schedule for 30 May. Netball WA will continue to work with Netball Australia to ensure our Suncorp NetSetGO participants can stay connected to the sport and current registrations are carried over into future programs.
Based on advice from government and our Chief Medical Officer, right now, we're recommending that Suncorp NetSetGO programs are postponed until a later date. When we’ll restart programs isn’t clear just yet and we’ll continue to work with advice from government and our CMO to make this decision.
Giving kids the opportunity to carry on playing netball is really important to all of us. To make sure Suncorp NetSetGO can be continued throughout the year, we are working on an exciting virtual delivery model. We’ll keep you posted over the next couple of weeks – we can’t wait to share what this will look like.
You’ll probably have several questions around our decision to postpone, including things like participant fee refunds. We’ve pulled together a list of FAQs to help.
GOLD NETBALL CENTRE
In line with the Federal Government’s directives, the Gold Netball Centre has closed its doors to the general public, as of 12pm today. The Gold Netball Centre will not be available for bookings until further notice.
The Netball WA office will continue to be staffed on a rotational basis, while all staff will remain contactable via email and mobile. Some staff will commence working remotely during this time. All Netball WA staff are committed to working with respective stakeholders to deliver on the sport at all levels across 2020, and we thank our community and our partners for their support during this time.
SUNCORP SUPER NETBALL
Earlier this afternoon, the Super Netball League Commission confirmed the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season has been deferred as part of the wider efforts to protect the health and wellbeing of fans, athletes, staff and the broader community. The Commission announced that the season will not commence prior to 30 June. The Commission will review the situation before the end of May and, based on the latest medical advice and government regulation, will determine whether the season start date should be extended out further.
Additionally, the Australian Netball League season has also been deferred and will not commence prior to 30 June.

The health and wellbeing of our netball community – our athletes, coaches, umpires, officials, volunteers, fans and staff - is paramount, and the potential impact on our people was at the forefront of these decisions.
We want to thank our community for their ongoing support. Netball WA will continue to monitor the situation regarding COVID-19 and will communicate with all stakeholders regularly.
