The new facility which will cater for the demand for people to participate in Netball and see an increase in participation of approximately 40 per cent in the Peel Region by 2031.
The Netball WA Strategic Facilities Plan, launched in September 2024, identified that the Peel Region was in dire need for new and additional courts and that the lack of facilities was impacting participation growth.
Netball WA Chief Executive Officer Simone Hansen said: “The commitments from WA Labor remove a significant barrier for participation in Netball in Peel, which means that people who want to play Netball in the Mandurah area will now have more opportunities,” Ms Hansen said.
“Since 2019, Netball WA has grown participation by almost five per cent across the State however, due to a lack of court access the Peel Region we have not been able to grow our game in Mandurah and the surrounding areas.
“Netball WA is extremely excited with this commitment from WA Labor as it will allow us to grow playing numbers by around 40 per cent in the Peel Region.”
Netball will also benefit from a number of other projects announced as part of WA Labor’s $186 million Sport and Recreation Infrastructure investment in community sport. These projects include:

Ms Hansen said: “The commitments announced by WA Labor address significant facilities shortages and it is fantastic that Netball and other sports will benefit from these new projects right across the State, including $6.7 million towards four new outdoor covered courts at Karratha Netball Association.”
Netball WA President Craig Heatley welcomed the WA Labor commitments and noted the massive boost to participation that they would help deliver.
“Sports such as netball are vitally important to ensuring people stay fit and healthy and feel that great sense of community that only grassroots sport can deliver,” Mr Heatley said.
“Everyone involved in Netball in Western Australia has been working very hard behind the scenes to secure these facility commitments and we are looking forward to these projects being delivered and more people taking the opportunity to play our great game.”
