West Coast Fever Futures program wrapped up its selection process last weekend as it finalised the 17/U and 19/U squads for 2023.
The 19/U Futures athletes are extremely fortunate to have High Performance Coach, Karly Guadagnin, take the helm again for 2023. She comes with valuable experience and knowledge at a variety of levels in the pathway by coaching at Australian Netball League, National Netball Championships and WA Netball League.
“The trials over the weekend went incredibly well,” Guadagnin said.
“We believe we have quite a lot of potential to work with.”
Guadagnin and the selectors look for more than just technical skills needed from athletes to see if they have what it takes to get to the next level.
“We look at various elements to an athlete – build, height, physiological capacity, coachability, adapting with different athletes and on different opponents, how they interact with teammates, their warmup and preparation and how they present themselves.”
Guadagnin is looking to build from the 2022 performance and is thrilled to be involved in the program.
“It is fantastic to be involved in the Fever environment,” she said.
“It provides a realistic pathway for our athletes and coaches to reach the next level.”
Guadagnin will work closely with recently appointed talent coach Guy Keane, who will be in charge of the 17/U cohort, and is looking forward to collaborating.
“Guy and I will work closely together to try and align both programs,” she said.
“Even though our athletes will be at different stages in their netball journey within the Futures Program, we will still be looking to align with the Fever way and preparing them as best as we can to compete and develop.”
