The 2025 Hyundai Community Raffle is officially open, and the 2024 Online prize winners are looking to raise more money to invest back into their Club.

Mercy Leschenault Collie Netball Club surprised themselves in 2024, taking home the winning prize of $3000 on top of what they had already raised for the most online tickets sold.

Club Treasurer Tricia Scaffidi said winning the prize was beneficial to the Club and their members. MLC’s involvement in recent years has contributed to the Club’s ability to keep their fees the same for the past four years despite cost-of-living pressures.

“The raffle is great because you receive 100 per cent of the funds back, sponsors and grants can be hard to get, so this is an easy and impactful way to receive funding,” Ms Scaffidi said.

The Club has also been able to invest back into their Netty Footy program, supporting their volunteers and providing uniforms.

“Coaches are needed for our programs and in order for them to feel confident they need specialised training,” Ms Scaffidi said.

“We want to target what we can do to support our coaches and keep them coming back, initiatives we can provide with extra money.”

Ms Scaffidi said there’s no one secret to success in the raffle, just that the local community really got around the Club.

“We asked every team to sell three books and had a number of parents who would take them to work where they would sell quickly,” she said.

“Small businesses like hairdressers put out them out on their counters and they sold themselves.”

Ms Scaffidi believes their online sales were backed by local small businesses looking to help without necessarily being a sponsor.

“This was a discrete way to support a sporting club in your community,” she said.

MLC are already looking at ways to incentivise people to buy tickets this year.

“By definition sport is competitive, so we’re hoping to incentivise teams with prizes like a free windup to push sales.” Ms Scaffidi said.

“Our goal is not necessarily to win every year, we’re happy for someone else to win that, we just have a target we want to hit that will help our Club.”
