West Coast Fever Futures program heads into its closing stage this weekend as final selections are made for the 17/U and 19/U squads.
The Futures program was established earlier this year as the Club sought to expand its footprint, integrating more than 60 athletes from across the State into this new talent pathway.
The athletes receive education, training and developmental opportunities as the next generation of netballing talent.
Athletes who are selected into the Futures Squads are then eligible to represent WA in their respective age groups at the National Championships each year.
Recently appointed Fever Talent Coach Guy Keane will take on the role as Head Coach of the 17/U squad, while Karly Guadagnin will return to coach the 19/U group.
Keane said he was thrilled to get underway in his role and assess the quality individuals vying for selection.
“I’ve heard there’s some really great talent coming through in those age groups. So I am really excited to see that WA flair of netball coming through,” Keane said.
“I’m looking forward to meeting all the athletes that are in the program and getting to have a taste of the Futures Program with selections over the weekend.”
Keane, who is an elite-level accredited coach, understands the significance of being able to integrate local West Australian talent into the top tier of netball in the State.
“It’s obviously really important. There’s a big build towards having homegrown talent that’s coming through into the Fever program,” he said.
“I know that Dan Ryan has had a few of those athletes come through the Fever’s pre-season program over the last couple of weeks so they can get as much exposure in that Fever training environment.
“It is opportunities like that which is going to help them with their netball journey and hopefully one day be playing for the Fever.”
Other State appointments will be announced in the coming months.
