More than 3,300 netballers participated in the 2021 Fuel to Go and Play Association Championships in Perth over the WA Day long-weekend from June 5-7.
The annual event provides representative participation for Associations’ players, coaches, managers and officials from across the State.
This year, approximately 3,300 players and 280 umpires from 39 Associations across Western Australia participated in 36 divisions catering for age groups from 12U through to Masters.
This saw more than 850 matches played on 39 courts at the Gold Netball Centre and Perth Netball Association in Jolimont over three days.
Teams travelled from across the State to participate, representing Associations from as far as Kununurra, Karratha, Albany, Esperance, Kalgoorlie and many regional communities in between.
The Fremantle Netball Association and Wanneroo Netball Association were the stand-outs in Division 1 of each age group, with Fremantle winning the Open, 17U and 15U Grand Finals, while Wanneroo won the 14U, 13U and 12U Grand Finals.
Bunbury took out the Masters Division, while other Division winners from regional WA included Bridgetown, Bunbury, Busselton, Eaton, Esperance, Geraldton, Katanning and Leschenault.
The 2021 Netball WA Service to Sport Award was presented at the Opening Ceremony to Jennifer Skinner from UWA Netball Club and Perth Netball Association for her commitment to netball over the past 30 years.
Netball WA General Manager – Community Netball, Liz Booth, thanked everyone involved in making the 2021 Fuel to Go and Play Association Championships such a great event.
“A huge thanks to everyone involved with this year’s event and the enormous effort that was put into making the weekend such an amazing success,” Booth said.
“With 276 teams participating, some competitive and thrilling netball, an engaging activation zone that included a visit from our West Coast Fever team on Monday, up to 8,000 people coming through the gates daily and the unforgettable marriage proposal at the end of the second presentation ceremony, we had it all happening!”
“We’ve had some terrific feedback from participants and many of them are already looking forward to next year’s event.
“Special thanks to naming rights holders and netball’s Major Partner, Healthway, promoting the Fuel to Go & Play message, for distributing more than 4,000 pieces of fruit to players, officials, spectators and staff over the course of the event.
“Healthway are celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2021, and we are proud to have been partnered with them for the best part of those three decades,” Booth said.
The event was also supported by Principal Partners the Gold Industry Group, and supporting partners The University of Western Australia, Linley Valley Pork, HCF and the Insurance Commission of Western Australia, promoting the Belt Up message.
