News and Upcoming Events

  • The Midwest Gascoyne Regional Advisory Committees first meeting for 2020 will be held during the Regional Forum being held on Saturday the 14th and Sunday the 15th of March in Geraldton. Representatives from all Midwest Gascoyne Affiliated Associations will take part in the Forum.
  • Regional Office Staff will be in Perth Central Office on Thursday the 19th and Friday the 20th of March 2020 for meetings, planning, and professional development.

The purpose of the Volunteer of the Year Achievement Award is to recognise a volunteer member within the Netball WA Midwest Gascoyne regional area that has made a significant contribution to netball in a volunteer capacity over the designated 12-month period.

2019 was the inaugural year for the Midwest Gascoyne Regional Championships. The Championships have age divisions from 12 & Under through to Open and Masters. 

The purpose of the Championships is to:
o	provide a platform for Association representative teams to compete against other Associations in the Midwest Gascoyne geographical area;
o	provide a platform for Coach mentoring;
o	provide a platform for Umpire coaching and badging;
o	provide Selectors the opportunity for the identification of Coaches, Player’s and Umpire’s for further pathway program’s and regional representative teams;
o	provide an opportunity for the netball community to come together to network and socialise.

The carnival promotes participation and engages players from a wide variety of ethnicities to foster their netball skills in a fun and encouraging environment. The Multicultural Carnival is a celebration of WA’s cultural diversity. Each team is required to have 5 participants with 1 or more parents born overseas, or to identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander on court at any one time.

Umpires from affiliated Associations in the Midwest Gascoyne may be identified and selected into the Midwest Gascoyne Umpire Development Academy. This program offers the selected umpires the opportunity for further pathway development both on and off court.

Umpire Development Academy

Athletes and coaches from affiliated Associations in the Midwest Gascoyne may be identified and selected into the Midwest Gascoyne Talent Development Group. The athlete selection for this program comes primarily from the Midwest Gascoyne Regional Championships. However, if there is a valid reason as to why an athlete or coach is not able to participate in the Championships and they have been identified at other Carnivals or Association visits they may be included into the program. 

This program offers selected athletes and coaches the opportunity for further pathway development both on and off court through day camps and satellite sessions. State Cup Team athletes and coaches are selected from this program.

The State Cup Competition is held in Perth and is a pathway for representative teams from across the state to participate. It is also the platform for Netball WA & State Team Selectors to select athletes for the Fever in Time Program (FIT). Netball WA State 17U & 19U Teams are selected from the FIT Program. Midwest Gascoyne representative teams compete in the State Cup Competition ensuring opportunity for the athletes.

The Department of Local Government Sports and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) works collaboratively with government, community organisations, peak bodies and other stakeholders to achieve their vision of creating a vibrant, inclusive and connected WA community. 

DLGSC as a Major Partner of Netball WA provide funding to assist in the areas of governance, risk management, development and marketing.

Athletes, coaches and umpires who meet criteria may be eligible for DLGSC funding in one or all, of the following:

Regional Athlete Support Program
The Regional Athlete Support Program establishes a state-wide network supporting regional-based talented athletes, coaches and officials which allows athletes to continue their development and progress along the athlete pathway from their home environment.
Midwest Academy of Sport

Regional Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme
The Regional Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme provides funding assistance to regional Western Australian athletes who aspire to reach their full sporting potential. The funding is provided by the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC). Athletes must meet the defined categories and be approved by DLGSC & NWA to receive funding.

North West Travel Subsidy - Gascoyne
North West Travel Subsidy assists young athletes from the North West with travel costs.
It aims to encourage participation in identified sport and recreation activities for athletes living in the regions of the Kimberley, Pilbara and Gascoyne. 
North West Travel Subsidy is not an open funding scheme and is only available to athletes by way of application from their Regional or State Sporting Association or another relevant not-for-profit organisation approved by the department.

KidSport enables eligible Western Australian children aged 5 to 18 years to participate in community sport by offering them financial assistance of up to $150 per calendar year towards club fees.
