Job Description

Reporting to the Participation Coordinator – Schools, and the Development Coordinator - Metro, the Community Netball Coach will be responsible for providing quality introductory netball programs for school aged students within Western Australia. These programs will emphasise skill development and active participation in a safe and enjoyable environment. 

Primarily, the position will implement the Netball WA school-based programs such as Netball in Schools and Woolworths NetSetGO to provide opportunities for every young person to participate and engage in the sport of netball. Community Coaches will also be given the opportunity to register as a coach for the national Sporting Schools program, which are also clinics facilitated by Netball WA.

The Community Netball Coach will be providing many children with their first netball experience in Primary Schools. Those Community Coaches that have more extensive experience or qualifications in coaching netball will also have opportunity to coordinate netball programs for High Schools students.

Core Responsibilities

  • Promote the purpose, values and behaviours of Netball WA within the Netball and greater Western Australian communities advocating Netball as a deliverer in service excellence;
  • Conduct school-based programs and/or development activities throughout the metropolitan and/or regional Western Australia in order to increase awareness, participation and engagement in our sport;
  • Implement high quality netball development programs and create a positive experience for junior participants;
  • Attend NWA Induction and upskilling as required;
  • Promote and support Netball WA aims and objectives of junior development across Western Australia;
  • Maintain records and submit information in accordance with Netball WA requirements;
  • Maintain regular correspondence with Netball WA Participation Coordinators in reference to availability and program implementation;
  • Complete all Community Coach pre-requisites e.g. Working With Children’s Check

Essential Criteria 

  • Completion of the ‘Getting to Know NetSetGO’ module;
  • Minimum Current Foundation Coaching Accreditation (or be willing to attain);
  • High interpersonal, group management and organisational skills;
  • Ability to work during and/or after school hours;
  • Knowledge of the skills and rules of netball;
  • Be currently affiliated with a netball club or Netball WA (or be willing to become affiliated);
  • Ability to work independently and part of a broader team;
  • Working with Children Check;
  • A current “C” class WA driver’s license and vehicle;
  • At all times ensure a Child Safe environment;
  • Comply with the Netball Australia Member Protection Policy and Child Safeguarding Policy.

Hours of work

The role is a casual position. Due to the nature of this position, most work will be conducted during and/or after school hours and/or during school holidays. 

Hourly Rate 

$30.00/hr for Netball in Schools Packages

$35.00/hr for NetSetGO and Netball in Schools Clinics

$40.00/hr for Sporting Schools Clinics

How to Apply

In line with the National Child Safeguarding Policy, NWA is required to interview all applicants. The applicants are also required to provide the names of two referees who will be contacted by NWA as a component of the final selection process.  The referees can't be related to the applicant and must have known the applicant for a minimum of 12 months (one year). The applicant will be required to provide the two referees on the Community Coach Application Form.

Applicants will be required to submit both a resume detailing their relevant experience and a cover letter outlining their ability to meet the Essential Criteria via the Community Coach Application form.
