An innovative association committed to healthier eating, Swan Districts Netball Association (SDNA), has been leading the way in delivering healthier eating options at their canteen with the support of Healthway and the Western Australian School Canteen Association (WASCA).
Since completing the Fuel to Go & Play accreditation earlier this year, SDNA and their Canteen Manager, Morgan Millar, have been taking positive steps towards promoting and encouraging healthier eating at their canteen.
They have also engaged actively with Healthway and WASCA to complete community online training and training in allergens.
On top of this, the WASCA team visited SDNA to assess the canteen menu and assist with making positive changes.
SDNA’s canteen menu has been altered accordingly, with two ‘red’ items removed and one ‘green’ item added.
Items are coded by colour to indicate their health rating; red being not advised and green being a healthy option for consumers.
To continue encouraging healthier choices, the canteen has also created meal deal offers, with water being the standard drink inclusion.
Healthway’s Director of Health Promotion Julia Knapton congratulated the netball community for embracing healthy values on and off the court.
“It’s fantastic to see Swan Districts Netball Association provide healthy options by encouraging physical activity on the court, as well as ensuring healthy choices are available from the sidelines,” Ms Knapton said.
“The Healthy Sporting Club Program is now open for summer applications and I’d encourage any local sporting club open to enhancing healthy options for its members, to apply.”
