The West Coast Warriors have capped off an incredible Gold Industry Group West Australian Netball League season, by being crowned Open premiers tonight.
Their Men’s side also walked away with the title, after a thrilling one-goal win in the final game of the night, while the Western Roar were crowned champions in the 20U divsion.
In the Open Division, the Warriors dropped just one game all season, back in Round 1 against the Western Roar, and produced one of their most polished performances at the Gold Netball Centre tonight to claim the first title under the new competition structure.
The Warriors led from start to finish as they ran out 74-65 victors over the Western Roar.
Powerhouse shooter Donell Wallam was crowned Most Valuable Player, after dominating the goal circle with 67 goals from 77 attempts.
Defensively, Steph Cooper and Nat Bright continued their combination, picking up a number of intercepts across all four quarters.
The Warriors skipped out to an early lead, scoring 20 goals to 13 in the first quarter, before extending their lead to eight at the major break.
The Roar continued to press strongly in the third quarter, but the Warriors still managed to extend their lead to seven at the nine change.
Both sides drew the final quarter, with Larissa Harrison the pick of the Roar shooters with 52 goals from 58 attempts.
It was another fantastic night at the Gold Netball Centre, with a number of the sport’s Partners activating across the night, while a big crowd enjoyed three fantastic games of netball.
The sport will officially celebrate the 2019 Gold Industry Group WANL season at the 2019 Jill McIntosh Medal at the Rendevouz Hotel, Scarborough on October 19.
