Perth Lions have taken out the 2018 18U West Australian Netball League Grand Final, defeating Coastal Sharks 52-45 at the State Netball Centre on Friday.
The game had the perfect set up, the Lions had been invincible for almost two consecutive seasons, until the Sharks produced a stunning upset in the Semi Final.
Lions Coach said Karen Turnbull said she was proud how the squad was able to back up another stellar season following a number of new faces in the team.
“It’s a new group to last year, there was only two existing players, so you start all over again,” Turnbull said.
“To compete at this level and succeed you need to alter things you need to learn new things and then you need to be prepared to implement it into your game,”
“By the start of the season we rolled with that and the belief comes when you start to win.”
The Lions were able to handle a fast start from the Sharks, taking out the first quarter three goals in front.
In the second the Lions made their move, making the most of their chances to extend their lead to 28-21 at the main break.
The third quarter ran much like the previous two, however a run from the Sharks was soon halted thanks to two stunning intercepts from Trinity Rond.
In the final term the Lions were able to keep the Sharks at arm’s length to run out seven goal winners and claim their third Grand Final.
Captain and midcourter Toni-Marie Smith was named Most Valuable Player for the match, following an impressive game.
