Day 3 of the 2017 National Netball Championships saw all teams play just the one game, with WA’s 19U side recording a big win over the ACT, while the 17U side suffered their first loss of the competition.
After a close first half against the ACT, the 19U flexed their muscles in the third and fourth quarters, outscoring their opponents 22 to five to run out 20 goal victors.
Rose Aryang was impactful in the third quarter scoring six of WA’s eight goals, while Nat Bright and Courtney Kruta continued to drive the ball out of defensive and into attack.
WA’s defensive pressure was second to none as they held the ACT scoreless in the final seven minutes of play.
In the 17U division, WA’s unbeaten run came to an end on Day 3, falling to Queensland by one goal.
WA held a narrow lead at the first two breaks, before extending their lead to three at the final change.
However 11 goals to 7 in favour of the Queenslanders in the final stanza saw them run out 32-31 victors.
The competition returns to two games tomorrow, with WA set to take on the Northern Territory and South Australia in the 17U division, while the 19U side will face New South Wales and the Northern Territory.
Finals are scheduled for Sunday and Monday.
