Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships reaches new heights

The 2019 Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships soared to new heights at Wembley Sports Park last weekend.

The 267 teams from 40 Associations across the State made the most of the glorious weather for a brilliant three days of netball hosted at the State Netball Centre and Perth Netball Association.

Fremantle Netball Association had a dominant weekend, claiming Division One wins in the Open, 15U, 14U, 13U and 12U Divisions.

Bunbury claimed the 17U Division One title.

The Championships also celebrated new ‘No Limits’ winners for athletes with an intellectual disability after Southern Districts took victory over Wanneroo and Districts 27-15.

Many competitors travelled a long way to participate, including regional Associations such as Carnarvon, Esperance and Kalgoorlie.

A record 15 teams from Singapore took part, while there were two Boys’ Divisions, with Kalamunda and Districts claiming wins in both.

Georgia Robinson and Courtney Hunt from Katanning Netball Association were also awarded their National C Umpiring Badges.

Netball WA Chief Executive Officer Simon Taylor said The Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships was a wonderful celebration of netball in the State.

“Congratulations to all the victorious Associations and to all those who took part in a memorable three days of competition,” Taylor said.

“The Championships are without doubt a highlight on the Netball WA calendar and we were proud to once again run a brilliant event.”

“A huge thank you must go to all our Netball WA staff who worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth competition.”

“We are already looking forward to coming together again in 2020 as we look to take our flagship event from strength-to-strength in the coming years.”

Fans and spectators at the Championships also sampled a raft of activations from Netball WA’s Partners, including the Gold Lounge from the Gold Industry Group and the Healthway Fuel to Go & Play Refuel Station.

All 10 West Coast Fever players also attended a signing session on Monday, after returning home from Brisbane.

The Championships were supported by Healthway, promoting the Fuel to Go & Play message, the Gold Industry Group, the Insurance Commission of Western Australia, promoting the Belt Up campaign, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the Town of Cambridge and the Perth Netball Association.
