The Aboriginal Youth Gala Day is a round robin competition open to all Junior Aboriginal community teams, with the aim of providing an opportunity for players to show their skills in a competition environment. It signifies the annual commencement of Netball WA’s Grassroots Sites Program.
Target Audience: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players aged 10-18 years
History & Participation
2018 marks 10 years since the first Aboriginal Youth Gala Day was held. Originally held exclusively for Grassroots Sites teams, the carnival now caters for all Junior Aboriginal participants.
Since the inaugural carnival was held in 2009, it has grown to become one of Netball WA’s most important events.
Since 2017 Netball WA has partnered with the WA Football Commission to deliver the event side by side with the Nicky Winmar Cup. The combined participation at the two carnivals held in 2018 was in excess of 800 players, coaches and officials.
Netball WA wishes to acknowledge the support provided by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
