The Aboriginal All Stars program is designed to develop Aboriginal Athletes to strive and desire to participate in the Netball WA Player Pathway and represent the Netball Region in which they live in. Aboriginal All Stars provides an opportunity for talented young Indigenous players across Western Australia, who haven’t entered or had success in the Netball WA Pathway; To play and compete at an elite level. The All Stars program gives young Indigenous netballers an introduction to high performance netball, providing exposure to elite level training and opportunities to compete as a team in the Netball WA run competition Cadet and Academy Cup.
History & Participation
The All Stars program was established in 2005 with an open age and 17U team representing WA in the Charles Perkins National Netball Championships. Over the years, the Aboriginal All Star athletes have been selected based on performances at the annual NAIDOC Netball Carnival. In 2017 the first Aboriginal All Stars athlete netball trial was held. The netball trial was introduced as the quality of talented athletes being identified had dramatically increased. The program has grown from 12 participating athletes annually to a squad of 26 per year, with players aged from 11-17 and 6 coaching staff.
