Program Snapshot

The Netball WA Academy Cup is a major specialised event that serves as the culmination of the Develop A Diamond Regional Academy Program, giving athletes aged 14-16 years the opportunity to compete in a state competition. It is an opportunity for coaches and umpires to participate at the next level in the pathway and be provided valuable mentoring opportunities during the competition.

Held annually over a weekend in October, the Academy Cup showcases the most talented athletes within this age group and the standard of play is traditionally fierce and highly competitive.

History & Participation

The Academy Cup was formerly known as the Youth Cup with one team from each of the 11 Netball WA regions participating in the competition. The Regional Academy Cup has now grown into a competition that provides opportunity for athletes, coaches and umpires to compete at the next level in the pathway and to be identified by selectors for further development.  The Academy Cup is integral in providing a competitive environment for athletes to transfer skills from a training environment into a competition environment with up two teams from each region as well as the Aboriginal All Stars Team competing.

The Regional Academy Cup is proudly supported by the Insurance Commission of Western Australia through the provision of ‘Belt Up’ branded netballs for the event. Don’t become a statistic. Belt Up!
