Channel 9 to celebrate junior netball

Netball WA is pleased to announce Channel Nine Perth as a new Major Partner of the sport in Western Australia.

Further strengthening the relationship between the Nine Network and netball that began with a ground-breaking broadcast partnership for the Suncorp Super Netball competition, Channel Nine Perth has made a significant investment in WA’s grassroots netball in order to shine a light on the highest participation sport for women and girls in the West.

Channel Nine Perth Managing Director, Ray Wardrop, welcomed the announcement.

“Junior netball is a hugely popular sport in WA and it involves not only thousands of young players each week, but also many thousands more parents and brothers and sisters,” Wardrop said.

“Everything about netball is fantastic.  From the health benefits of keeping kids fit through to team building and friendships forged on an off the court.  We really couldn’t be more pleased with our partnership with junior netball.”

“It’s a really tangible way for us to give back to the community.”

Sentiments shared by Netball WA CEO, Simon Taylor.

“We’ve established quite a prosperous relationship with the Nine Network at a national level and it’s wonderful to see that partnership take on extra significance here locally in WA,” Taylor said.

“The willingness of Channel Nine Perth to promote and engage with our grassroots is a genuine indication of the exponential growth in profile of our great game.”

The multi-faceted partnership will see Channel Nine Perth activate at a variety of competitions and events, as well as engage with participants on a weekly basis.

A “Nine News Teams of the Week” competition will see two local club teams featured each week across the winter season during Nine News’ weather segment with presenter Scherri Lee Biggs. Players from each team will receive prize packs including a hoodie, netball and a variety of West Coast Fever prizes.

“Court Nine” will also be a rotating feature across the five major Perth Metro Netball Associations; namely Perth, Fremantle, Wanneroo, Southern Districts and Kalamunda, with an activation zone set to come to life each Saturday morning giving players and their families the chance to compete, win and most importantly, have fun.

As a Major Partner of the Smarter than Smoking Association Championships, Netball WA’s largest annual participation event, Channel Nine Perth will also activate across the three-day carnival at the Wembley Sports Park.

There will also be a Channel Nine presence at other major events including the NAIDOC Netball Carnival, Academy Cup, Cadet Cup and the West Australian Netball League (WANL).
